Yarrow is a hardy, fast-spreading perennial known for its flat-topped clusters of tiny white flowers that bloom from early summer into fall. Its finely divided, aromatic foliage forms dense mats, making it highly effective for erosion control in tough-to-grow areas. Extremely drought-tolerant and resilient, Yarrow spreads readily through rhizomes and by seed. Its long flowering period provides an extended nectar source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
While highly beneficial for pollinators, its vigorous growth makes it best suited for spaces where it can be harvested, managed, or used to stabilize areas where other plants struggle to establish, especially in rural plantings or large-scale landscapes. Yarrow's strong fragrance and bitter-tasting foliage make it unpalatable to deer, giving it a high level of natural grazing resistance.
