About Wild About Flowers
Wild About Flowers is a small, specialty nursery primarily focused on native perennial wildflowers of Alberta. We also grow a selection of other native species from Saskatchewan and British Columbia that don’t naturally occur in Alberta. Many of the native plants we grow are found across Canada, making them well-suited for a variety of prairie and woodland landscapes.
We provide more than just standard growing information. Alongside details like site conditions, bloom times, and plant sizes, you’ll also find notes on regional distribution, deer resistance, pollinator interactions, Chinook tolerance, and more.

Our Mission
Our goal is to offer a diverse range of native plants, provide practical guidance for their use, and promote their role in creating low-maintenance, self-sustaining landscapes. We support biodiversity through ethical seed collection and environmentally conscientious production practices.
Seed Collection
Our seed is source-identified, and most is collected by hand in southern Alberta. We are careful to leave more than enough seed behind to support the local ecology.
We collect seed from natural areas such as:
- Country roadside ditches
- Designated Crownlands
- Our own onsite stock
Plant Production
We grow all our plants starting in an open-air coldframe, then move them to our shade-house where they grow in sync with the seasons. This results in hardy plugs that are ready to transition into natural environments. This approach aligns with native plant cycles, is highly energy efficient, and makes the most of freely falling rain and snow.
Because we grow naturally and at a pace that suits the plants, there’s no need for chemical pesticides. Dormant plugs are available starting May 1 and can be planted as soon as the ground is workable.
