Low Townsendia is a tiny but striking native biennial, hugging the ground with a dense rosette of silvery-green leaves that readily reseeds itself. In early spring, it bursts into bloom with large, daisy-like flowers in soft shades of white to pale pink, each with a golden-yellow center. One of the first wildflowers to bloom, it provides early-season pollen and nectar for native bees emerging from hibernation. Thriving in dry, rocky soils and open prairie landscapes, this hardy native is well-adapted to tough conditions, including drought and high elevations.
Low Townsendia is ideal for xeriscapes, rock gardens, alpine plantings, dry prairies, and native restoration projects in well-drained, sunny sites. Its delicate yet resilient charm makes it perfect for edging pathways or tucking into crevice gardens where drought tolerance is valued. Highly deer resistant, its low growth form and tough, hairy leaves deter browsing.
