Beautiful Sunflower is a hardy, sun-loving perennial with tall, upright stems topped with golden-yellow, daisy-like flowers that bloom from mid to late summer. Its nectar-rich blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects, while its nutrient-dense seeds provide food for goldfinches, sparrows, and other seed-eating birds. The rough, lance-shaped leaves give it a bold presence in the landscape, and its deep root system makes it highly drought-tolerant.
Well suited for prairie plantings, wildflower meadows, and pollinator gardens, Beautiful Sunflower thrives in full sun and dry soils. Due to its vigorous spreading habit, it is best used in larger rural plantings or naturalized areas and may require management in smaller garden settings. Its deep, fibrous roots help stabilize dry soils, making it an excellent choice for prairie restoration and erosion control. While not a preferred food source, deer may browse on young plants or tender new growth, however, established plants generally recover well from any browsing.

Traditional Edible & Medicinal Info
Helianthus pauciflorus seeds are edible and were traditionally harvested as a food source by Indigenous groups, while young shoots and leaves were occasionally eaten in survival situations. Medicinally, infusions from leaves and flowers were used to reduce swelling, fevers, and minor pain, while crushed leaves were applied as poultices for cuts, insect bites, and wounds. Some preparations were taken to ease stomach discomfort, and though not toxic, excessive consumption may cause mild digestive upset.
