Lance-leaved Stonecrop is a low-growing native succulent that forms spreading mats of fleshy, lance-shaped green leaves, which turn reddish in dry conditions. In summer, clusters of bright, starry yellow flowers bloom, attracting bees and other pollinators while also serving as a host plant for butterfly species. Well-adapted to harsh environments, this resilient perennial is ideal for rock gardens, green roofs, xeriscapes, and self-sustaining, low-maintenance plantings.

Hardy and highly drought-tolerant, Lance-leaved Stonecrop thrives in rocky, well-drained soils, making it a versatile choice for both urban and rural landscapes. It is highly deer resistant as it has thick, fleshy leaves which produce bitter-tasting compounds.

Native to western North America, Lance-leaved Stonecrop is found in YT and BC to SK, extending southward into the western US. Commonly found in dry, rocky, open sites at low to sub-alpine elevations, thriving on rocks or gravelly soils in exposed areas.

Traditionally, Indigenous peoples made an infusion of the stems, leaves, and flowers of Sedum lanceolatum that was used as a laxative and to clean out the womb after childbirth. Leaves are edible and were consumed by some Indigenous groups; however, they should be eaten in moderation due to potential to induce vomiting and cathartic properties.
