Small-Leaf Pussytoes is a hardy, low-growing perennial with dense, silvery-green foliage that forms a soft, spreading mat. In late spring to early summer, it produces fuzzy white to pale pink flower clusters that resemble tiny cat paws, giving the plant its endearing name. These blooms support pollinators such as skippers, moths, and butterflies, including the Painted Lady, whose larvae feed on its leaves, making it a valuable addition to pollinator-friendly plantings.
Thriving in well-drained, sandy or gravelly soils, this drought-tolerant ground cover is ideal for rock gardens, xeriscaping, and erosion control on slopes. Its compact size and slow-spreading habit make it well-suited to urban landscapes, between pavers, as an edging, and in tough dry spots where other plants struggle. Thanks to its tough, fuzzy foliage and low palatability, it is rarely browsed by herbivores.
