Yellow Penstemon is a unique and resilient perennial with soft yellow, tubular flowers that bloom from late spring to early summer. Its upright, branching stems and narrow green leaves add texture and structure to gardens. These nectar-rich blooms provide an important resource for native solitary bees and bumblebees, which pollinate its flowers, while hummingbirds and butterflies occasionally visit for nectar. Unlike many of its Penstemon relatives, it can adapt to moist but well-drained soils, making it a versatile and easy-to-grow addition to both urban and rural plantings.
Yellow Penstemon is drought-tolerant and well-suited for xeriscapes, prairie plantings, and self-sustaining landscapes. Cold-hardy and highly adaptable, it thrives in challenging, dry environments and is an excellent choice for rock gardens and native pollinator plantings. Moderately resistant to grazing, deer may browse young shoots, but mature plants are generally avoided due to their bitter foliage.
