Creeping Beardtongue, also known as Rocky-Ledge Beardtongue, is a low-growing, mat-forming perennial that thrives in dry, rocky, or well-drained soils. Its dense mats of bright green foliage make it an excellent ground cover, while clusters of tubular, lavender pink to deep purple flowers bloom from late spring to early summer, attracting hummingbirds, native solitary bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators. With its short stature and large, showy flowers, this unique wildflower is perfect for rock or crevice gardens. Under good snow cover, it can retain its green foliage through winter.
Spreading by seed and underground stems, Rocky-Ledge Beardtongue gradually fills in spaces while remaining easy to manage, offering resilience, beauty, and pollinator value to both urban and rural plantings. Flourishing in dry rocky slopes, cliff crevices, and ledges, it is a drought-tolerant and moderately deer-resistant species, making it a reliable, low-maintenance choice for self-sustaining landscapes.
