Prairie Onion is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial with delicate, star-like white to pale pink flowers that bloom from mid to late summer, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators with their nectar-rich blooms.. Its slender, grass-like leaves emerge in spring, adding fine texture to dry meadows, rock gardens, and prairie plantings.
Native to dry prairies, open slopes, and sandy flats, Prairie Onion thrives in well-drained, sandy or gravelly soils. It is an excellent choice for xeriscaping and naturalized plantings where water is limited and maintenance is minimal. Like other wild onions, its strong scent and flavor make it unappealing to deer.
