Tall Larkspur is a striking, moisture-loving perennial with towering spires of deep blue to purple flowers that bloom from mid to late summer. Its bold form and rich nectar make it a magnet for pollinators, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. With its showy blooms and height, it brings dramatic vertical interest to wildflower meadows and naturalized landscapes.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soils, Tall Larkspur is well suited for riparian plantings, high-elevation gardens, and naturalized foothill and montane settings. It grows in moist grasslands, along streambanks, and in aspen forests where it flourishes in cool, high-altitude environments. The plant is toxic to most grazing animals, including deer, due to alkaloids that affect the nervous system, making it generally avoided by herbivores.

Traditional Edible & Medicinal Info
⚠️ Toxicity Note: All parts of Delphinium glaucum contain alkaloids that are highly toxic to livestock, particularly cattle, if consumed in large amounts. While it is a valuable species for pollinators and native ecosystems, and has a heavy seed that is not wind-borne, it should be planted with caution near grazing areas.
