Joe Pyeweed is a tall, moisture-loving perennial with dense clusters of fragrant pink to purple flowers that bloom from late summer into early fall. Its sturdy, upright stems are topped with dome-shaped flower heads that attract a wide range of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, making it a valuable addition to any late-season planting.
Thriving in moist, nutrient-rich soils, Joe Pyeweed is well suited for rain gardens, riparian plantings, and naturalized meadows, where it adds height, texture, and vibrant color. Though not frost tolerant, it remains well-behaved despite its impressive size, making it a good fit for both rural and urban landscapes. Naturally found along woodland edges, wet meadows, streambanks, and marshes, it adapts well to damp environments. The bitter-tasting foliage makes it less palatable to deer, though occasional browsing may still occur.

Traditional Edible & Medicinal Info

Crushed leaves were applied as poultices for sore muscles and joint pain, and though not toxic, excessive consumption may cause digestive upset.
