Product Options

Indian Rice Grass is a graceful, drought-tolerant bunchgrass that thrives in dry, well-drained soils, making it an excellent choice for xeriscapes, prairie plantings, and self-sustaining landscapes. Its fine, airy seed heads create a delicate, shimmering effect in the breeze, adding movement and texture to both urban and rural plantings. Birds, including quail, doves, and songbirds, feed on its highly nutritious seeds, while native bees benefit from its habitat structure, though the grass itself is wind-pollinated. Beyond its ornamental value, this resilient native grass produces nutritious seeds that were traditionally harvested as a food source by Indigenous peoples.

Indian Rice Grass is one of the best native grasses for erosion control, with a fibrous root system that stabilizes loose soils. Though it can be slow to establish, it is highly adaptable and low-maintenance. It is moderately resistant to grazing, young shoots may be browsed, but mature plants are generally avoided due to their tough texture.
