Douglas Fir is a towering, long-lived conifer, reaching up to 100 feet tall and 30 feet wide, adding year-round beauty and ecological value to the landscape. It produces pollen-rich male cones that support native bees and early-season insects. Its soft, dark green needles release a fresh, citrus-like scent, while its distinctive cones, adorned with unique three-pronged bracts, provide food for birds and wildlife.
Thriving in well-drained soils, Douglas Fir is drought-tolerant once established and excels in windbreaks, reforestation projects, and self-sustaining landscapes. With its strong, straight form and deep roots, it is a valuable choice for creating low-maintenance, long-term forested spaces and naturalized plantings. Its aromatic needles and coarse texture deter browsing, offering high resistance to deer and other herbivores.
