Yellow Columbine is a delicate yet resilient perennial, featuring soft yellow, nodding, lantern-like flowers that bloom in early to mid-summer. Its finely textured, lacy green foliage forms a graceful mound that brings movement and subtle charm to shaded borders, woodland gardens, and naturalized meadows. The spurred flowers are rich in nectar and a favorite of hummingbirds, native bees, and butterflies.
Yellow Columbine thrives in well-drained soils and is particularly well-suited to cooler, high-elevation gardens. It tolerates rocky, dry, or nutrient-poor soils with ease, making it an excellent choice for wild or cultivated spaces alike. Like other columbines, it contains cyanogenic glycosides, compounds that deter browsing by herbivores and help protect it in unfenced or naturalized plantings.
