Blue Columbine is a striking perennial known for its nodding, blue and white, spurred flowers that bloom from late spring to early summer. Its delicate, fern-like foliage provides soft texture and contrast in woodland gardens, shaded borders, and alpine meadows. The nectar-rich flowers are a favorite of hummingbirds, native bees, and butterflies, offering an important food source in cooler, high-elevation environments.
Thriving in well-drained soils, Blue Columbine is well-suited to rocky, nutrient-poor sites and cooler climates. It performs beautifully in naturalized plantings, cottage gardens, and pollinator-friendly designs in both urban and rural landscapes. Its toxicity and bitter compounds deter browsing by herbivores.
