White Camas, also known as Mountain Death Camas, is a striking perennial known for its tall, elegant spikes of star-shaped, creamy-white and green flowers that bloom from mid to late summer. Narrow, lance-shaped leaves emerge in spring, adding structure and texture to moist meadows, grasslands, and woodland edges. It has a specialized relationship with the Death Camas miner bee, one of the few pollinators adapted to feed on its nectar and pollen, both toxic to most other insects.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained, cool, moist soils, White Camas is best suited for naturalized plantings in mountain or meadow settings. Despite its common name, it is distinct from the smaller, highly toxic Meadow Death Camas, though both lack the onion scent characteristic of edible Alliums, a key feature in identification. Due to its high toxicity, White Camas is strongly avoided by deer and other herbivores
