The Butterfly Plug Package features wildflowers that attract butterflies with nectar-rich, brightly colored blooms and broad or clustered flowers that provide easy landing spots. Whenever possible, we also include host plants that support caterpillars and the full butterfly life cycle. This package is not selected based on site conditions, so please include your site details and whether you are urban or rural in the comments section at checkout to help us choose the most suitable plants. For a list of potential species, see our Plug Package Contents.
Each Butterfly Package contains at least 18 different wildflower species also selected to provide the longest possible bloom period.

Important Information
How you can help us pick the right plants for your space.
Our plug packages are customizable. Simply choose a package and tell us more about your space. Some packages are designed around specific site conditions, while others are more general.
Use the comments section on the Plug Package Page to share details like whether your project is urban or rural, your sun and soil conditions, your preference for tall, short, or mixed heights, your need for mid- or late-season blooms, or even your favorite colors. We’ll will take this all into account as we select the plants for your package.

What to Expect
Your plugs will arrive labeled with information on height, spacing, bloom period, and site preferences (when relevant). We’ll also include planting instructions and tips to help you get started. In early spring, some plants may still be dormant or just starting to wake up— they are second year plants and outdoor grown, these plugs are in tune with the season, and can be planted as soon as the ground is workable.
Coverage
It's difficult to give an exact coverage estimate for any plug package, as wildflowers vary widely in size, growth habits, and how they spread. Some grow big and bold, while others stay compact. All native plants will produce viable seeds, and species that don’t produce much tend to spread underground instead. If you don't want them to spread, simply remove the seed heads before they ripen.
As a general estimate, a small plug package (20 plugs) covers about 30 to 40 sq ft, spaced at 1 plug per 1.5–2 sq ft. Since our packages are customizable to your site and project goals, it's important to let us know whether your project is urban or rural. In rural spaces, we’ll include larger plants that cover more ground and make a bigger impact—plants we wouldn’t include in an urban package due to their aggressive spreading habits, which may be exactly what you need in a larger space.
Plug size and spread also vary by habitat type. Dry/Rocky plug packages will include plants that naturally stay smaller due to tougher growing conditions. On the other hand, species in Moist or Open Woodland packages tend to be bigger, thanks to their lush, shaded environments.
