Yellow Buckwheat is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial with dense clusters of bright yellow flowers that gradually fade to warm shades of orange and red as they age. With an exceptionally long bloom period from late spring through summer, it provides a steady nectar source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Its low, mounded growth habit and leathery, blue-green leaves make it an excellent choice for rock gardens, xeriscapes, and dry prairie plantings.
Yellow Buckwheat is highly resilient making it an excellent choice for both rural and urban gardens that prioritize drought tolerance. It thrives in dry grasslands, foothills, alpine meadows, and rocky slopes at mid to high elevations where it thrives in harsh, nutrient-poor soils. Its leathery leaves make it less palatable to grazers, though occasional browsing may occur.
