Blue-Eyed Grass belongs to the iris family, despite its name, and produces star-like violet-blue flowers with bright yellow centers atop slender, grass-like foliage. Blooming in late spring to early summer, it attracts pollinators such as mining bees and butterflies, while birds, particularly sparrows and finches, occasionally consume its seeds. Low-maintenance and drought-tolerant, it is well suited for smaller gardens, native prairie plantings, rock gardens, low-maintenance meadows, and even containers.
A delicate yet hardy perennial, Blue-Eyed Grass adds a splash of color to both urban and rural landscapes. It thrives in open spaces with minimal competition and can self-seed to form naturalized patches. Its fibrous, narrow leaves deter browsing, offering high resistance to deer and small mammals.
