Showy Aster is a hardy, late-blooming perennial with large, lavender to pale purple, daisy-like flowers that stand out beautifully against its rough, dark green foliage. Blooming from late summer into fall, its nectar-rich flowers support bees, butterflies, and other pollinators preparing for winter. Upright stems grow in loose clumps, adding height and texture to meadows, woodland edges, and naturalized plantings.
Tolerant of drought once established, Showy Aster performs well in both urban and rural spaces, offering long-lasting color and ecological value. It thrives in moist meadows, montane grasslands, forest edges, and both shaded and open woodlands, where it adapts to a variety of moisture and light conditions. While not deer-proof, its rough foliage makes it less appealing than more tender species.
