Description: Medium bushy shrub up to 1.5m tall. Branches have red bark and new growth is generally thornless. Delicately fragrant pink blooms through late summer, and the rosehips are bright red and persist in winter, offering three season interest. Hips attract birds through winter and can be used in many ways for food or medicine. Extremely drought-tolerant for Calgary and area gardens. Can also be used in part shade to fill in an understory.

Found in Nature: Prickly rose (R. acicularis) and wild rose (R. woodsii) overlap habitats and have been known to hybridize.

Notes: Plant with caution in an appropriate site where there is sufficient space. Roses will sucker and can be aggressive and hard to remove.

Important Information: The "Bloom Period" is an indicator of the time period within which the wildflowers will bloom and does not describe the time period that a single plant will bloom. The "Sizes" listed are intended to be a general guideline to consult during plant selection. Plant growth and bloom times will vary depending on geographical location & individual site conditions.
