Description: A smaller aster that grows in a variety of areas from dry open hillsides to moist forests, Western Meadow Aster is a beautiful addition to the pollinator garden. Delicate-looking stems give rise to purple flowers in July and August. The plant spreads both by seed and rhizomes to make clumps over time. Western Meadow Aster is a great choice for bees and is a host plant for a variety of butterflies and moths including Northern Checkerspots and Pearl Crescents.
Found in Nature: Dry Meadows, open forests and disturbed areas.
Distribution: Western North America, along the Rocky Mountains in Alberta
