Description: This annual wildflower shows up on disturbed sites and is often found growing in hot exposed roadside ditches. The flowers are an important nectar source for Butterflies and Bees in general, but it is an especially important plant for our native bees. It is fragrant but some people are turned off by the scent leading to other common names like Skunk Weed.

Found in Nature: Open sunny sites with drier soils, often on disturbed ground.

Distribution: Southern BC, AB to New Mexico

Notes: Latin genus recently changed from Cleome to Peritoma

Important Information: The "Bloom Period" is an indicator of the time period within which the wildflowers will bloom and does not describe the time period that a single plant will bloom. The "Sizes" listed are intended to be a general guideline to consult during plant selection. Plant growth and bloom times will vary depending on geographical location & individual site conditions.
